Editorial Review

Constrained by its own success, Hanuman's 2007 relocation to beneath the Holiday Inn was the facelift needed to match the unrelenting demand for this restaurant's cuisine. Upon arrival, the atmosphere is full of excited whispers which one can't help but be a part of. A glance in any direction is met by an authentic Indian or Indonesian sculpture, statue or wood-carving and if you are lucky enough to be a guest during the evening, these features are further highlighted by the spectacular lighting effects. A read of the menu turns into a struggle of desires; each dish offers flavours that will transport you directly to Asia. Thankfully, the waitstaff are well versed when it comes to indecision, and they provide excellent guidance on the menu. However, as each dish is so carefully designed, there are no wrong choices. Ultimately you will need to return again and again and again to create your own list of favourites.

The signature dishes are always a great place to start in any restaurant, which is why you simply cannot leave your table until you have been served the most spectacular oysters imaginable. Hanuman-style prawns and Thai crispy whole fish are a further must. When it comes time for dessert, be sure to save room for the black rice brulee, demonstrating an outstanding Asian twist on a classic favourite. Established by Jimmy Shoo in 1992, Hanuman's is renowned for their international master chefs, fresh produce and superb wine list. A visit to Hanuman is a truly amazing experience and one that cannot be missed.
