Editorial Review
Another popular Mitchell Street cafe with a vaguely Mediterranean theme, Chianti's offers some of the best Italian-style food and coffee on the strip. The shady outdoor seats are popular for people watching, but there's plenty of space inside the cool blue painted interior, with its large, quirky paintings and big, comfortable cane armchairs.Standard breakfast fare is on offer in the morning, but come lunch and dinner there's a wide selection of tempting dishes. There is a range of yummy focaccias, pastas and salads as well as lighter meals like minestrone and antipasto plates. For a more substantial meal, try the lasagne alla marinara, or the pollo al chianti (pan-fried chicken breast in Chianti wine with red pesto and onion finished with light tomato sauce and fresh grapes, served atop a bed of organic salad.) The kitchen also does one of Mitchell Street's better steaks. If the Moreton Bay bug thermidor (pan-fried bugs with onion, garlic, fresh spices and mustard with light cream sauce and rice pilaf) is available, it's certainly worth the splurge. Otherwise, keep an eye out for the specials such as chargrilled quail or Moroccan chicken salad.

Cleanplate: 4th Oct 2008 - We arrived around 7.30pm. Two of our party of four people had entrees, and within one minute of them being finished the main dishes arrived. The chef/cook was having a bad night judging from the large amount of angry shouting in the kitchen. The food was so-so. To top off the experience they began cleaning up at 8.15pm...and I'm not talking about a wipe over of the tables. A mop bucket was dragged to the end of the bar and filled in full view of our table. We asked if they were closing and the guy that appeared to be the shift manager said "the boss doesn't like paying the staff to stand around". The overpowering aroma of the lemon disinfectant in the mop bucket that permeated the whole restaurant did little to complement. When we were paying the bill one of our party mentioned our dismay to the 'manager?' - he basically didn't care - not even an insincere 'sorry' was offered. (05 October 2008)
