Editorial Review

Undercover but open to lofty sea breezes, Thailicious is deliciously cute. Situated over two levels, you can order takeaway from a little window in the wall downstairs, or eat in the open-air dining room upstairs. There are tables out on a little balcony area overlooking Mitchell Street - far enough away from the beer-swilling action below, but still close enough for patrons to enjoy the spectacle. Part of the novelty of Thailicious is getting down low on the colourful cushioned floor seating. The polished concrete floors of the main dining room are covered with straw matting and lustrous, low-rise, dark wood tables which can be separated for couples or joined up for large groups. Bright fuchsia walls lend the restaurant a modern and funky feel, while the paintings and ornaments which dot the room ably represent Thai tradition.

The menu is textbook Thai: lots of choices separated into soups, barbecue, curries, stir-fries, noodles and rice dishes, and all the favourites are present and accounted for. Start with a couple of entrees such as Golden Ships (minced pork and onions flavoured with palm sugar and wrapped in pastry) or Angel Prawns (deep-fried prawns with shredded coconut). Follow with a selection from the a la carte menu, such as massaman beef curry or garlic and pepper stir-fry, or mix'n'match noodles, sauces and meats to create the ultimate Thai dish.
